precise adjustments to maximize the amplifiers
power output, a feature that will be key inside the
install bay.
The amplifiers also tout a host of high-quality com-
ponents and features, such as gapped E-Core
choke coils, pulse-width regulated MOSFET
power supplies (DPX1001.1), two-ohm stability,
unregulated power supplies(APX320.2,
APX640.2, APX640.4), mixed-mode operation,
variable high and low-pass crossovers, bass
extender control, and high power output.
Rounding out the 2004 line is Clarion’s value-
priced amplifiers, which also boast high output
power and cutting-edge features, such as switch-
able bass boost and high and low-pass
crossovers. These amplifiers are priced affordably,
providing a feature-packed solution on the sales
floor for that budget-oriented consumer.
Built-In High/Low Pass Crossover with
Precise Frequency Selector
Clarion’s ProAudio amplifiers, APX320.2, APX640.2,
APX640.4 and DPX1001.1 feature a precision
detented pot on the crossover adjustment which pro-
vides accurate adjustment of the high pass/ low pass
crossover frequency. Generally, amplifiers include
some type of printed scale for frequency adjust-
ments.
This approach provides little more than a general
idea as to the actual crossover point. Clarion’s
ProAudio amplifiers go two steps further by imple-
menting a detented adjustment on all APX and DPX
amplifiers and a 10x range switch (except
DPX1001.1). The APX320.2, 640.2, 640.4 and
DPX1001.1 manual lists the exact crossover fre-
quency at each detent between 50 Hz and 582 Hz.
Using the 10 x range switch multiplies whatever set-
ting you have by a factor of ten, again allowing a wide
range of operation without an overly sensitive adjust-
ment.
APA4300HX Technologies (cont’d)
Aluminum Heat Sinks and Forced Cooling Fan
For superior heat dissipation, Clarion’s APA4300HX
employs a large, tunnel-shaped sub heat sink, as well
as an internal, heat sensitive fan. Located to the cen-
ter of the chassis, the fan adds additional heat pro-
tection to internal parts. This means the amplifier will
maintain peak performance, even when operating
under extreme conditions.
Low-Loss High-Output Power Supply
and Quality Parts
Clarion equips the APA4300HX’s power supply with
a high-performance, low-loss, MOSFET-based,
PWM-type dc/dc converter. The amplifier’s circuit
structure boasts large-capacity, low impedance
capacitors, a large toroidal choke coil, a super-thin
circuit board and a copper buss bar. The result is a
power supply that maintains stability, even during
sudden signal changes.
Three-Tier Approach
In its commitment to providing dealers with solu-
tions, Clarion has constructed an amplifier line that
follows a three-tier scenario. Starting with the
APA4300HX, Clarion’s flagship amplifier for
2004(see previous page), the line consists of the
ProAudio APX320.2, APX640.2, APX640.4 and
DPX1001.1 which represent the company’s
American Designed amplifiers, and the APA450,
APA250, and APA2001, which represent the com-
pany’s value-priced entry lineup.
Clarion’s ProAudio amplifiers were developed to
provide maximum clean power with exceptional
good looks that boast a progressive exterior design
that’s highlighted by a front chrome panel and
ProAudio logo. Working two-fold, the design allows
the amplifier to maximize heat dispersion without
the need for an internal fan. Along with that, Clarion
ProAudio amplifiers incorporate two new features, a
Precise Frequency Selector and Selectable Input
Voltage Gain. The result is an amplifier that boasts
